We knew about Hurricane Dorian before it was a hurricane, yet many of us haven’t thought about the dangers of inadequate coverage, and that includes life insurance. September is Life Insurance Awareness Month and we roll into it with a category 5 hurricane to remind us all of how important it is to be prepared.
According to the The National Weather Service (NWS), “tropical Cyclone Dorian may bring life-threatening storm surge, devastating hurricane-force winds, heavy rainfall and flooding to the Bahamas and the southeastern United States.” Over 9 million people are currently at risk from strong winds, storm surges, high tides and torrential rainfall. All of us at KVIS & Coe send our prayers to those already affected, and to those in the current path of Hurricane Dorian.
From Distant Warning To Life-Threatening Reality
On August 24, 2019, a tropical storm formed and was named “Dorian.” One day later, it intensified into a hurricane near St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. As of today, Sunday, September 1, a State of emergency has been declared in four states. Dorian has struck the Bahamas with catastrophic damage as an upgraded Category 5 Hurricane with sustained winds of up to 185 mph. Hurricane Dorian is now tied for the second-strongest storm of the Atlantic Ocean in recorded history.
September Is Not Only Life Insurance Awareness Month
In addition to Life Insurance Awareness Month, September is the most common month for hurricanes making landfall in the U.S., according to an analysis of 1851 to 2015 data by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Many people don’t prepare for hurricanes until they know it’s most likely going to affect them. Basically, they get ready at the last minute. Those same habits won’t work when it comes to protecting themselves with the right insurance coverage.
Let Dorian be a reminder of the importance of having adequate insurance coverage for life-threatening disasters such as hurricanes. That includes life insurance, which guarantees financial protection for your loved ones. Get a quick, free, and easy life insurance quote now.
